Are you looking for your next social group to join or want to learn how to play Chess? The Paeroa Chess Club is on at Paeroa Library every Friday from 2 - 4.30pm. New players of all ages are welcome. Chess sets are available or bring your own.

The libraries will be closed on Anzac Day - Thursday 25th April. Normal hours will resume on Friday 26th April. Feel free to return items to our after-hour bins.  

Our school holiday programme kicks off on April 15th! We have a magical time planned with lots of exciting activities on offer. 

At Paeroa Library our Wizard Escape Room is happening every day. Bookings are essential with teams of 2-6 people. These bookings are half-hour sessions starting from 10.30am. Please phone the libraries on 07 862 8609 to confirm a date and time. This Escape Room would not have been possible without the help of Thames Coromandel District Libraries. We appreciate their generosity. If you missed out at Thames Library, please come to Paeroa. 

We will also be offering Origami on Monday 15th and Monday 22nd April. 

At Waihī Library, we have a range of various craft and interactive programmes including 3D Printing, PlayStation, Wizard Painting and Wizard Wand Crafting. These sessions also require bookings, so please phone 07 862 8609 to confirm. On the last day of the school holiday programme, there will be a best-dressed costume party with a screening of the first Harry Potter film, at both Paeroa and Waihī Libraries, for those who took part in any of our sessions. 

Ngātea Library has Wizarding Activity Booklets for those who cannot attend our sessions at Paeroa or Waihī.

Last man out: a personal account of the Gallipoli Evacuation by Louise Park (C 940.426 PARK) -The evacuation from Gallipoli of Australian and New Zealand troops was a logistically incredible undertaking. The exhausted young men were to slip away by ship in the dead of night. But... Someone needed to remain behind to cover for their fellow soldiers. 

This is where I stand by Philippa Werry -  Provides a glimpse into the life of a soldier immortalised as a statue, reflecting the passage of time.

Legacy by Whiti Hereaka - Seventeen-year-old Riki is worried about school and the future, but mostly about his girlfriend, who has suddenly stopped texting him. But on his way to see her, he’s hit by a bus and his life radically changes. Riki wakes up one hundred years earlier in Egypt, in 1915, and finds he’s living through his great-great-grandfather’s experiences in the Māori Contingent.

‘Deception leaves a killer legacy…’ that comment raised my browsing eyebrows as well as the cover (side note so many book covers are extremely eye catching lately). This is not exactly the type of book I would normally read but with the cover and comment I was all in, and it certainly did not disappoint. A family from old money thinks they are above it all however things are rotten at the core. Read the book to see all the deceptions and be grabbed with the urge to read it in one go!’
