Lyn Randall – Community Advocacy Officer 

Our community organisations are dedicated to doing fabulous work in our district. From music to mental health, parades to premises, there’s always a project on the go requiring those extra funds. Here’s a list of some of the funding organisations that regularly consider applications in the Hauraki District. Most applications should be completed online and often require registration first, so check out the criteria and give yourself plenty of time to prepare your application so you don’t miss out.

Aotearoa Gaming Trust – open applications monthly and consider funding for organisations around the Kaiaua area. Requires you to create an online account via the website in advance of your application.

Akarana Community Trust – open applications monthly and consider funding for organisations around the Paeroa area. The application form is available to download from the website for printing and signing. Completed application forms should then be scanned and emailed or posted back to the Trust.

The Lion Foundation - open applications all year round and consider funding for organisations around the Waihī area. Requires you to create an online account via the website in advance of your application.

NZCT Community Trust – open applications monthly and consider funding for organisations around the Paeroa area. Requires you to create an online account via the website in advance of your application. One Foundation – opens applications monthly and consider funding for organisations around Waihī area. Requires you to create an online account via the website in advance of your application.

Transpower Community Fund – opens for ‘Expressions of Interest’ twice a year in October and April. Supports applications for organisations within 2km of their overhead powerlines in the district. These power lines run through Paeroa across Waikino and out through the A&P showground end of Waihī. Contact Transpower to check your eligibility.

Valder Ohinemuri Charitable Trust – opens funding applications quarterly and support the Ohinemuri district community. Application forms can be emailed to you via the trust.

Thrifters Op Shop – opens funding quarterly and supports organisations within the catchment of Hauraki Plains College. Application forms are available at the Thrifters Shop in Ngatea.

OceanaGold – open funding monthly and supports organisations in and around the Waihī area. Download an application form via the website, which should be emailed or posted to the Community Investment Team at OceanaGold.

 In September we were lucky enough to have Sarah Gibb, Community Advisor at Community Waikato, present the workshop ‘Governance and Management of Small Organisations’ in Paeroa. 

 Whether participants were experienced committee members, new to an organisation or thinking about joining one in our district, this workshop catered to them all, it was informative, friendly and provided important information about what’s required. This is even more important with revisions to the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 coming into action in October 2023. 

 If you missed this, don’t worry, there are currently two more online workshops for this subject available in October. Julie Stephenson - Community Employment Liaison

Our most significant achievement recently has been the addition of two new staff members who are already making amazing progress. 

Nicola Poutu is our new Community Employment Officer and Rebekah Vukojevich is the Gr8 Job Hauraki Administrator.

We have made an excellent start toward our 2023/24 target and have already achieved 10 new placements since July 1. 

We have had a steady increase of new clients and are now looking forward to connecting with students at our three secondary schools to support those transitioning into employment. 

We are excited to be piloting a new programme in partnership with Te Waka (Waikato's regional economic development agency). The programme is called EPIC (Empowerment-Preparation-Inclusion-Collaboration) and is designed specifically for solo parents, to help guide them toward meaningful employment. The programme will start mid-October and continue through to early 2024. 

Gr8 Job Hauraki will also be hosting an open day early in November and invite public to call in to meet the team and find out a little more about what we do. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information about our upcoming events and initiatives.

Rebecca Jenks - Community Development Advisor 

 Last summer has taught us that it’s always important to have a plan at the ready in case of an emergency. As well as at home, it is important to consider what this looks like in your place of work, as you never know when a disaster will strike.

ShakeOut is the national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi (if you are based in a coastal area) and is taking place on 19 October 2023 at 9.30am. 

 We encourage all businesses to sign up and participate. The purpose of ShakeOut is to remind people of the right action to take during an earthquake. Drop, Cover and Hold. You can find out more and get involved here New Zealand ShakeOut. 

 It also acts as a good reminder to take a look at your business’ emergency plan and if you don’t have one, to start developing it – it is an important part of your organisational health and safety plan.

Lou Beer - Event and Business Support Coordinator 

Between 1 September and 12 December 2023 join us at: events, exhibitions, workshops, open studios, musical and theatrical performances around the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki that will welcome and inspire you. 

Explore a diverse range of creative activities, take a scenic journey off-the-beaten-track, immerse yourself in artistic experiences and be inspired meeting the people creating work you will love. 

This is the first year for the festival and seed funding has been secured to grow the event here in 2024. 

If you are an artist, musician, performer, gallerist or otherwise involved with the arts and our creative communities around Hauraki and would like your event to be featured in the festival line up between now and December, please head to the website Coromandel ArtBeat Spring Festival.
