No time to waste!

If you're passionate about reducing waste or want to learn more about how you can step up your rubbish or recycling efforts, you've come to the right place! 

Our new Keeping up with the Kerbsiders page on our Kōrereo Mai community engagement platform is a place where you can learn all about Hauraki District's rubbish and recycling initiatives for your family of kerbside bins - enter our surveys, take our quizzes or ask questions about our waste services. You'll also  be able to share your ideas or suggestions for services you'd like to see.

You asked for it, we've got it!

We're excited to announce a new initiative that we're rolling out later in August for household battery collection bins in our service centres and the start of e-waste collections at our Refuse Transfer Stations. 

Household batteries are a major source of fires in the kerbside collection trucks, so getting them out of rubbish bins and into recyclable channels is good for the collection service and the environment, not to mention freeing up room in your rubbish bin. No more used household batteries rolling around in countless kitchen cupboards across the district either. Keep up to date with this initiative at Keeping up with the Kerbsiders!

Focus on Food Scraps in August

It's been eleven months since the new para kai | food scraps kerbside collection service started and we're keen to know what you think.

Guess how much food waste has been collected!

Did you know? We've collected 20.5 tonnes of food scraps from September 2023 to the end June 2024! Ka pai community - that's 20.5 tonnes not going to landfill. Together, we're turning food waste into a valuable resource with Living Earth compost. It's been a great start, but we think we can do better - that's why your feedback on the service is so important.
