"Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life." - Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007, American writer and producer) As the calendar year commences, we have so many things to look forward to, and we can reflect on the fun we had during the festive season, both in our Libraries and personally. We hope you were able to spend quality times with your loved ones, while still reading our wonderful books! Thank you to all of you who took part in the Library Wellbeing and Community Impacts Survey. We are pleased to announce that we had the third highest number of responses in the whole country – testament to your commitment to our libraries! We look forward to the qualitative results which are due to be released across New Zealand soon. Read on to see news of last year’s various Reading Challenge winners and our upcoming Challenges that will give you the chance to win some nice prizes.
My challenge to you this month is to “Bring a Friend” and get them to join the library. We sometimes speak to people at community gatherings who say they “used to come to the library but don’t any longer” or they “have books at home”. Please encourage at least one of your friends to take advantage of the wide variety of material on offer at our libraries – from the latest bestsellers, to weekly magazines, to our digital offerings. Let us know at the Libraries or on our social media when you have recruited someone? |
