June 2025 Library Newsletter

A word from our Technical Librarian ...

Tēnā kotou katoa, ko Rochelle taku ingoa. Ko ahau Kaitiaki pukapuka matua ngā hangarau.

Hi I am Rochelle, Senior Librarian – Technical.

Many of you will be familiar with me because I have worked here for a hundred years! Or you might have had a chat with me amongst the shelves or taken one of the books I have recommended.

I am here to let you know a little bit about what else I do in my role. To sum it up, one of my main responsibilities is to purchase the books for the libraries in the District. Some might think it is an easy task but it actually takes time to think about things like: “Will the customers like this?” or “Does this book title sound silly?” or “I know ten people who would love this”, etcetera. We as the library team have to do our best to cater to all the literary tastebuds in our community. I hope you have found something enjoyable every time you have wandered amongst the shelves.

Another part of my job is compiling statistics, and keeping an eye on all our library technology, from the APNK computers to our Mobile Library App. This helps to keep our background processes running smoothly.

As an avid reader myself, my own reading tastes include loving fantasy – give me some magic, mythical creatures, wizards, witches, a battle or war and I am a happy reader! Recently I have jumped on the Rhys Dylan train and if you like a good detective mystery / whodunnit then you would definitely enjoy this next series (there are plenty of books in it).

Ka kite koe i te whare pukapuka! See you in the library!
