All incorporated societies must re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 by 5 April 2026 - and it’s critical not to leave this too late.

If your group is an incorporated society, it’s time to check that you're on track to re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.  The deadline is 5 April 2026 and while that may seem a while away, getting started now will save stress later.

Re-registering isn’t just a legal formality - it protects your society’s assets, property, and funding eligibility.  Societies that don’t re-register by the deadline will cease to exist as legal entities, meaning they could lose ownership of assets and miss out on funding opportunities that require legal status.

The good news is, there’s plenty of support available. The New Zealand Companies Office website offers helpful templates and guidance to make the process easier and organisations like Community Waikato are running workshops to walk you through the steps.

Community Employment Liaison - Julie Stephenson

There has been a lot happening in our youth employment space over the last couple of months, the most important being that we have a new contract with Mayors Taskforce for Jobs. Now that we are more aware of what 2025/26 has instore for Nic and I at Gr8 Job Hauraki, we thought it was time to share the news! Our new contract is a significant shift for us – very much focussed on current registered job-seekers between the age of 18 – 24. Here is a more detailed breakdown which hopefully gives a better idea of what our space looks like.

• Contract Term: 1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026 

• Programme Purpose: To support young people aged 16–24, particularly those receiving a main benefit from MSD, into meaningful employment outcomes. 

• Key Deliverable: To successfully place 35 young people into employment, with a minimum of 30 being MSD main benefit clients. 

 • Sustainable Outcome: 182 days off benefit/in employment. 

With these targets confirmed, our focus has now shifted to ensuring early momentum in service delivery, building strong referral pathways with MSD, and working collaboratively with local stakeholders to meet the objectives set out in the new agreement. The new contract is a significant shift in how our team operates, so we anticipate a settling-in period and will regularly review and refine our processes as we adapt.

We have recently welcomed back our 24th participant at Outward Bound courses over the past year. This has been massive for us and has been an absolute pleasure to coordinate. To share the many wonderful experiences the participants have had and are carrying into their lives on the journey into mahi has been a Gr8 reward for us and we wish each of them all the best. We acknowledge the generous scholarships provided by Outward Bound as well as the support of Paeroa Rotary and Waihi Lions Clubs for helping to cover the associated costs.
