We had such a great time hosting a prizegiving for Waihī College’s Writing Competition last month. Library staff had the exciting job of reading and judging the writing. Here’s what staff had to say: “It was a pleasure for us to judge the Waihī College Story Writing competition – we hope to collaborate with these up and coming writers even more in the future!” Marion, Team Leader “Reading a variety of stories written by Year 9 and 10 students was a nice way to spend the afternoon. The students who entered the competition all had something different to offer. From the rugby season at Waihī College, a hauntingly beautiful story about loss, to all sorts of spooky themes, I was kept wondering what was going on and where the story was going to go. Round of applause to the students who put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard – keep writing and do your best to become the next Stephen King (head nod to the spooky writers at Waihī College)” Rochelle, Senior Librarian “It was such a privilege to be a part of the students’ writing journeys.
All of the stories were fantastic and it was so hard to pick the winners. We loved having them in the library for their prizegiving and it was so nice to be able to put faces to the names of the wonderful stories.”
