Our Council: e-News

16 September 2021

The agenda for this Council Meeting is available here.

Lawrence-Tuapeka RMP verbal submissions

Councillors heard a range of verbal submissions on the draft Lawrence-Tuapeka Reserve Management Plan.

Staff will now collate all the submissions received and present a report to Council. The report will also request direction on a number of issues raised during the consultation process. In particular, the types of activity which should be provided for on each reserve.

Following that, a final version of the Reserve Management Plan will be drafted.

Roading Contract Renewals

Council's Road Maintenance Contract is due for renewal in July 2022. There are other associated contracts, for example Greenspace.

We are progressing with a suite of maintenance contracts, and the format of it is called a framework approach.

The intention is to go to the market with a tender that would be fair to the market, our ratepayers and our operational team. Our objectives is to improve our decision making with better data collection and to be able to make defendable decisions, backed up with good information.

Clydevale and Tuapeka Mouth wheelie bin service extension

For some years there has been a trial wheelie bin service in Clydevale and Tuapeka Mouth.

There is strong support for an ongoing service. The current Solid Waste Contractor has confirmed they would be happy to provide a weekly kerbside collection to a set route in Clydevale and Tuapeka Mouth for the same rate as the current trial.

Therefore Council has decided to provide an optional kerbside collection to residents of Clydevale and Tuapeka Mouth for an initial two-year period.

2021 Telford Bursary

Applications for the 2021 Telford Bursary closed on 31 May 2021. The Telford Bursary Committee, comprising of Councillors Cowie, Ludemann and Thomson met on 29 July to consider the applications and awarded the bursary as follows:

 • Oliver Howes - $2,000.00

 • Amelia Clarke - $1,000.00

Amelia came to the meeting, was presented with a certificate and briefly addressed the Council.

She talked about how much the bursary had meant to her and how much she was loving her time at Telford. She also outlined her hopes for the future, going on to gain vet nurse qualifications, and some overseas experience, before coming back to work in the New Zealand farm community. She has enjoyed herself in Balclutha and could ultimately see herself coming back to the district.
