Our Council: E-Newsletter November 2025

Positions and Remuneration for Elected Members

At the Inaugural meeting of the new Council on 29 October 2025, it was agreed to decide how the workload would be spread across the various Council committees amongst the eight elected members and how they would be remunerated.

Two options were proposed and discussed:

1. An even spread with an increased amount for the deputy mayor, OR

 2. Differentiate depending on the workload. The total councillor remuneration pool is $420,233.

The Council needed to let the Remuneration Authority know which option it decided as soon as possible.

At the Council meeting on Thursday 13 November 2025, it was decided to go with Option 2: Five councillors would be remunerated an equal salary of $43,661; three councillors would receive a remuneration of 12.5% higher of $49,118 and the deputy mayor at 25% higher of $54,576.

Crs Bruce Graham, Roger Cotton and Simon McAtamney were the three councillors with a higher workload and accordingly a higher remuneration. Michele Kennedy was appointed Deputy Mayor at the inaugural meeting on 29 October 2025.
