While the storm event may seem like a distant memory to some of us, others are still experiencing significant disruption and are greatly affected by the damage caused by Mother Nature. This week I joined a Council-arranged 4WD convoy along Queen Charlotte Drive and Kenepuru Road, currently closed to the public. In places, some of the damage is as severe as that seen following the Kaikōura Earthquake and it will take some communities months to get back on their feet. To help those most affected, residents can now apply for assistance from the Mayoral Relief Fund.
