Welcome Back to walking and cycling in Marlborough.
After a hiatus of nearly 2 years, the active travel community is being reprised. With a new focus and initiative to make walking and cycling two real choices for travelling short distances around our urban environments.
By way of an introduction to you all, my name is Charlotte and I have replaced Braden and my role is slightly different. Firstly I work within the Marlborough Roads team in the office above Paper Plus, but I also work as the advisor to Council on all things walking, cycling and wheeling for the district. My main focus is on the urban areas and to advocate for safer streets for all ages and abilities in our communities.
Time for a change
I’m looking at not only taking on a new name, but also a new profile. For this I’m looking out for some new images, so if you have an image that would suit the group, send it in and see whether you become the face of walking and cycling in Marlborough.
Whilst you’re thinking about your snaps, what about a new name for Active Travel here in Marlborough? What do you think suits a group of Active Travellers be it for school or work or just getting in and out of town?
Near Miss Reporting
If you have or you see a near miss, please try and report it. There is an easy link in the Cycling pages of Marlborough District Councils website.
Report a near miss
It does actually help me as the Multi Modal advisor to Council identify where hot spots are, and where improvements need to be made. Have a look at the dashboard and see where reports have already been made.
New Cycle Paths
Council is considering creating new cycle paths to connect from the outer reaches of Blenheim into the CBD and to Schools, I would be grateful to receive your own ideas and see if they match mine!
Review the options and give your feedback
New Voices
As the Multi Modal Advisor to Marlborough District Council I’m also looking to reinstate an active travel forum for those who can bring ideas and experience with them and raise issues through to Council. I’m wanting to meet more regularly to advocate for safer streets for all ages.

School Streets
Blenheim has been selected for a couple of pilot trials for School Streets, when the pilots are ready to be run I will let you know, but we will be on the look out for some volunteers to help out, they don’t have to be parents or on the Board of Trustees, this is something everyone can help out with!
