Community projects benefit from development
Funding of $619,000 for seven projects, including the upgrading of three netball courts at Lansdowne Park, has been approved by Council’s Infrastructure and Community Facilities Committee.
Others include the Blenheim wayfinding expansion project, revetment works at Shelly Bay, improvements at Waikawa Bay Foreshore Reserve, park benches and footpaths in the Wai Iti subdivision, a new footpath in Manor Park and signage, seating and interpretive signs in Victoria Domain.
All will be funded from Council’s Land Subdivision Reserve fund.
The decision is subject to ratification at the full Council meeting on 29 October.
Flood protection repair bill in the millions
Winter storms caused substantial damage in the Waihopai, Wairau and Omaka river systems in June and July this year, with a repair bill of an estimated $4.6 million.
The two significant rain events occurred over a relatively short time with damage along the lower Waihopai, Wairau and Omaka River systems.
While some repairs have been carried out, further works are needed as soon as practicable to reduce the risk of further erosion and damage to critical stop bank infrastructure.
Clip it before the wind grips it
Council is encouraging residents to pick up a free pair of bin clips to keep rubbish and recycling in their bins when it’s windy.
Strong gusts can easily flip bin lids open or tip bins over, scattering rubbish across streets, footpaths and waterways. A bin clip keeps the lid firmly shut, so your bin stays closed even when the wind picks up. Only one clip per bin is required.
Free bin clips are available from the Council office on Seymour Street in Blenheim and Picton Library and Service Centre.
Shop in Blenheim to win
Business Trust Marlborough (BTM) has launched ‘Shop & Win’ – a promotion designed to stimulate trade for retailers in the town centre during the Market Street Revamp.
Shoppers who buy from a participating business have a chance to win prizes with the main one being a $4,000 travel voucher.
The promotion runs until Sunday 20 December.
