Live or work in central Clyde? You may have come across our contractors who’ve been out and about over the last few months assessing pipework, septic tanks and ground levels at residential and commercial properties. 

Thanks for your patience while this work has been underway. We’re keen to gather as much on-the-ground information as we can about existing drainage systems and land. Good information will help us build the best possible design for the new wastewater system. 

While initial survey work is complete, Council and contractor teams will be making further visits to properties in central Clyde, as we work to optimise the design of lateral pipelines from your house or business to the main wastewater line.

1. The design of the wastewater system for Stage 1 will be finalised early next year. 

2. We’ll then be able to confirm the exact perimeters of Stage 1. 

3. If your property is in Stage 1, we’ll communicate directly with you to let you know what the plan is for construction works. Our intention is to start during Autumn, however by early next year we’ll be able to be more specific about timings, once our programme is developed off the back of our design. 

4. We’ll then work out a schedule so it’s clear where construction will start in central Clyde. 

5. We’ll be in touch directly with all property owners who are in areas where construction will take place. 

6. For commercial property owners, we’ll be doing our best to schedule construction works so that any potential impact on trading is minimised.

Seipp Construction Ltd, specialists in pipeline, civil, river and marine projects, will be constructing the reticulated wastewater system and pump station. 

The Christchurch-based engineering company has worked on challenging projects requiring underground infrastructure, including a complex project replacing a significantly earthquake-damaged section of a wastewater trunk main in residential Christchurch.

The 8km wastewater pipeline that will take Clyde’s wastewater to the Alexandra Wastewater Treatment Plant is almost complete. 

The pipeline is now being installed along Tarbert St, Alexandra. It will then track further along Walton St and under the Manuherekia River to the wastewater treatment plant. Design and consent requirements are currently being evaluated for the Manuherekia River section. 

At the Clyde end, the pipeline will connect to a new pump station to be built on Council land (see image below). Following consultation this site was approved by the Vincent Community Board in July 2019.

Council has obtained $365,000 in funding from central government’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund towards the upgrade of the riverside carpark and access. The work will be done as part of the Heritage Precinct streetscape upgrade. 

This latest success follows an earlier grant from the same fund of up to $247,500 for new toilets in Clyde’s town centre and in the river area.
